Dance Training

Diana Freedman's School of Dance has a very professional approach to teaching and studying dance. Students are expected to attend regularly, and give full effort to their work. Not everyone wants to dance professionally, and we are happy for students to gain whatever they can from their time with us, either performance skills, good posture, confidence, and / or discipline. It works, and this shows in our results. The school has been recognised by the Dance Council International, and has been awarded a certificate in recognition of the high standards continually shown at the school.

Show

We put on spectacular shows every year at one of the local theatres, and parents are always amazed to see what their child/ren can achieve. We are very proud of all of our students. Diana Freedman's School of Dance has also had the privilege of performing in Christmas Concerts at The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, at the Summer Variety Show in the Hippodrome Theatre, Eastbourne, and at the All England Festival, Peacock Theatre, London, as well as providing dancers for many other shows, including pantomimes, ballet companies, including The Royal Ballet and local theatre productions.

Exams

Candidates who pass their examinations, from Grade 3 and above, with over 95%, may be entered for BATD scholarships, and many of our students have had this privilege. Being entered for scholarships is the culmination of years of hard work both on the part of the students and their teachers. Many of our students have successfully attended the scholarships for many years, being accredited (placed 1st by a Judge), and awarded Most Promising Pupil awards.

BALLET

Ballet is the basis of all forms of dance, giving the dancer strength, technique, and discipline. Classical ballet requires dedication from the dancer to perfect the art, and those who study classical ballet become graceful yet strong performers in all areas of Dance. Ballet teachers must be aware of each students individual physique, and are required to work with each dancer to gain the maximum technical ability. For this reason teachers are required to study anatomy and be aware of the changes they make to the bodies of the students throughout their training.

TAP DANCE

Tap dancing has been popular through so many generations. A way to make your feet talk and use them as musical instruments. The greatest use of rhythms, when mastered in tap dancing is spectacular, and magical to watch.

MODERN / JAZZ

Modern dance technique comes originally from the ballet syllabus. Dancers are then taught to modernize the moves, create contemporary lines and experiment with diverse styles, and choreograph unusual pieces of dance to the many various musical rhythms available. A modern dance class consists of warm up, stretching, loosening and strengthening classes, with the dancer becoming very flexible and able to move the body in many ways

Students who show above average potential in any dance or theatre subject are encouraged to have private tuition to prepare them for competition / festival work. We enter several festivals throughout the year, again with much success. Our students continually achieve 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in Solo's, Duets, Groups and Mini-groups, and have recieved many trophies and medals in such Festivals.
